Andy’s Story

I guess you could say that I’ve been “couple-oriented” my entire life: I was born an identical twin. I was a couple, part of a twosome, before I became an individual. As young boys, my brother, Wendel, and I were “the twins.”

In high school and college, I always seemed to be in a relationship. I enjoyed being part of a couple. I met Martha in my senior year at Colgate University. This year Martha and I have known each other for 43 years and have been married for almost 40 years.

In college and graduate school, I received degrees in psychology and human development, finally earning a Ph.D. from The University of Connecticut. Over twenty-five years, I worked as a psychologist and, eventually, as a marriage and family therapist.

Then in 2002, things changed dramatically. Martha was offered a big job in Amsterdam. We decided it was the opportunity of a lifetime, and so I closed my private practice, we sold our house and, with the first of our three kids headed to college, decided to move there, eventually staying for four years.

On the flight over to Amsterdam, I remember looking at Martha and thinking that together, we could do anything. That moment was a turning point in our partnership. And, for me, it was also a turning point in my career.

For four years, we lived an amazing adventure and a dream we had shared for a long time. While in Amsterdam, I trained as a professional coach and realized that I wanted to work with couples to fulfill their life’s vision.

Today, I specialize in helping empty-nest couples create a powerful partnership to fulfill their dreams.
